Gav Does Something Small

but not 28mm :)

so, i've been working heavily on my GT13 character and no, i'm not showing as it's a surprise :)
but as a break from a scenario-specific piece of terrain i rummaged through my 54mm bits box and pulled out a series of familiar-sized figures :)

first up is a conversion of Yarry from Enigma Miniatures into an old character of mine, Hugh Green, bounty Hunter

His trademark revolver (from Slick) and respirator on there :)
i may extend his cloak a bit further; will also allow him to be intermingled with the Familiars :)
i've also got Khendra (Yarrys wife) as his partner Shell but she's still in blister :)

next is a couple of conversions from mis-casts; my attempt to cast the Familiar without a vac-chamber came out horribly, but i'm not wasting them and going to do a couple of mechanicus-styled familiars (jawa warband possibly...) :)

mainly just swapping arms around, i may remove a hand and add mechadendrites in their place but not sure yet.
also don't know what i'm doing with the hoods; i'm tempted with bionic eyes but unsure how i'll get that "glowing eyes in deep hood" look jawas have :(

finally here's the start of a Chaos Familiar.. not alot to show at the mo

hunched over alot more than the familiar, I'm going to get the basic shape done (basically without arms) then cast a half dozen to accompany my Iron Warrior and have each carrying tek / lifting his mechadendrites like a wedding train :)

so, there's my reasoning for not doing much Inq-related... i have been almost exclusively but can't show
i make no apologies, i warned you my ability to roll ones was infectious...

Are you stealing my unimaginative thread titling methods? :P

A very nice use of the familiar, I must say. Makes it a shame that the model is OOP, Mechanicus warbands could do with more of that kind of thing running around.

Quoteunsure how i'll get that "glowing eyes in deep hood" look jawas have
I think you'll need to raise the top edge on the hood for that to work well (so you may need to deepen it by moving the bottom corners forwards). Because players are usually looking down on models, that'd get lost if the hood is so far over the face that the eyes couldn't possibly be seen.

Beyond that, I'd have detail to their faces, but all respirators and such. If you paint that very dark, with even the highlights being a pretty dingy grey and no stand-out details, bright/light colours for the eyes should stand out as a focal point quite well.
Won't be quite the same, but should both look nice and be reminiscent.
S.Sgt Silva Birgen: "Good evening, we're here from the Adeptus Defenestratus."
Captain L. Rollin: "Nonsense. Never heard of it."
Birgen: "Pick a window. I'll demonstrate".

I really like Hugh Green; so much so I may borrow the idea...

...and the Familiars are wonderfully 40K. Sinister yet servile!

a shame that the model is OOP
if you wanted one without a head and covered in bubbles i can help
once things settle down financially and with where i live ill invest in some better casting materials f'sure!

so, here's some updates; not alot due to this crazy shift pattern i have to work (yay almost minimum-wage!)

Hugh has a longer cloak

Gideon; by all means, it's always good to see how other people tackle conversions :D

the familiars have been having bubbles filled and some detailing; one has a data-slate, the other some tools :)

and finally been working on the chaos-familiar; i need to make a mould of components for my IGT objective so need this guy at a castable state asap :P

once the hood's sides are dry i'll be building the top up some more and adding extra folds; the arms will be sculpted on each one separate to allow for useful posing...

Looking good. Very creative use of the familiar, it's sad there aren't more out there (if I recall the price of the thing was unfortunate as well). If you want my two cents I think the hoods look great as is. If you'd like to do a send up to the jawas you could have some ambient light coloring on the edges of the hood to make it seem as though there's something hidden and glowing within.

Very interested to see how your Chaos fellow turns out. Yarry looks great as well. Is he going to be abhuman or just exceptionally short?

greenstuff_gav

i've managed to stick some small lenses in the hoods; they should paint up well :)
i've also added more scrolls to one and tools to teh other and may have found some other guys to pad out the warband; carrying parts and tools etc :P

casting up the chaos guys now; will see how they turn out :)

I like your zombie(?) Inquisitor. The familiars are great; Yarry looks disturbingly like a very small Clint Eastwood for some reason. Can't think why.  :P

I find that yarry conversion incredibly sinister! The pose adds so much to it coupled with his expression. All work top notch as usual master Gav
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Time to die.

cheers :)

here's some paintwork on the first two..

prolly gonna strip the bases and find a finer grain of sand :P

as mentioned in the rles thread, i've been working on a large transport for these guys :)

Necron Tomb Stalker with a skip from Armorcast (which i can't seem to find atm).
Am adding hand rails and supports for the skip to "articulate" it; the theory being it'd stay level regardless of the pose :)
also building a control panel and tool racks to sit in the cockpit.
will possibly be converting / sculpting a couple of Watchers to magnetise onto the sides, hanging on as it stomps about :D

Looks fantastic! I am a big fan of all things spider legged (or bug beetle whatever you know what I mean :P ) and this really fits the sinister nature of the little fellas.

crikey! it's been a month already  :-[

well, the Twins got their third member, a tiny guy to carry stuff about for them :)

Azraels' Watcher In The Dark wit hteh helmet cut off, the arms resculpted and a satchel from the Dark Vengeance Heavy Stubber attached :)

and while i'm here, moar dual-scale stuff!

finally got myself a 28mm Kal and am well happy how well my 28mm Jena scales as i sculpted her without any reference for Kal's size :)

EDIT:
next time i should have some WIP pictures of the Transport Walker :D
