Greetings all,

Here's a few WIP pics of my first warband for your perusal. No paint on them yet, just a few conversions here and there. Comments are encouraged please! And in fact, if anyone has any advice on basing, it would be well received as I'm lacking inspiration...

Cheers!

First up, Rogue Trader Janus Lynch:

Navigator Edric Melange:

Arch Militant Marcus Cole:

As yet unnamed Missionary:

Hope you enjoy!

nice conversions! especially the navigator!

for the bases, what do you prefer? should the base represent the floors of ship or the ground of a planet? something totally different?

what i tried on the base of my commissar is

hope this helps.

Thanks for the kind words Phil. Navigator was a pretty simple conversion, but getting that hood to sit right was a real pain (in truth I'm still not 100% happy, but I'm not going back to it!)

As for the bases, I definitely think of these guys are the 'ground team', so some sort of planet would be most appropriate I think. In fact I may just treat them as scaled up 40k bases, but with a little more detail.

wonderful, simple conversions with strong poses and great parts selection. can't wait to see them painted. amazing originality for all GW parts!

The flail - is that the wires coming out of a TechMarine backpack? I likes it... And indeed, all of them. Someone has been reading the Rogue Trader RPG rulebook...  ;D

You're right on both counts  ;) The electro flail is indeed the wires from the techmarine backpack, with a couple of bits from the original Josef hammer. And yes indeed, all archetypes are shamelessly lifted from the excellent Rogue Trader RPG!

Nice work - they all look really good, especially the navigator - a very different look to what I'm going for with mine, but very cool.  And I love the weapons on the priest - very cool.

I do have a few comments though.  Firstly, the Rogue Trader needs a scabbard.  Also, I'm not keen on the pose with both arms held straight forwards, I'd lower the arm with the sword I think.  And I'd add a belt loop or something to the Arch-Militant so he has somewhere to put his sword.  Also, the handle of his sword looks too short - a longer handle would make it look more balanced.  I'd also be tempted to have him facing in the direction he's pointing.

I'm planning the same thing with my Rogue Trader's warband - I've already got my Rogue Trader (with the emphasis on the 'Trader' part, he's not much of a warrior), the head of his household guard (Arch-Militant), his 'servitor-savant' advisor (Seneschal), and psyker-consort (Astropath Transcendent).  I'm working on the Navigator now, and have an idea for a Void-Master (well, Mistress) who will be the captain of his flagship.  I've also got a vague idea for an Explorator - there probably won't be a Missionary in the group, I see him as having closer connections to the Mechanicus than to the Ecclesiarchy.

Thanks for the thoughts Kaled, a scabbard is an excellent idea, something I was thinking of actually... In fact I could do with some thoughts on making one! As for the arm, it's actually not as straight forwards as the pic might make it seem (it's actually raised up higher and slightly more out to the side), but I'm afraid I wont be changing the position anyhow. Reason being, it took soooo long to get it to a (reasonably) suitable position thanks to the swooshing motion of both the robe sleeve, and the purity seals on the sword. A real pain believe me!

I might just lengthen the handle of the chainsword, if I can do so without damaging it! And when you say belt loop, what kinda thing do you mean? As in, what does a belt loop of this kind look like?

Thanks for the input so far guys, any other thoughts would be most welcome so I can begin painting these fellas!

Plasticard with some greenstuff or icons for detail should do the trick.

Nothing fancy, just a loop of leather or a ring of metal through which he can hook the sword when he's not using it.
