Nero Custodia, Black Guard Space Marine

Did him purely because I've always wanted to expand the existing Black Guard background and Inquisitor offers the level of detail that makes it possible, though I decided not to concentrate on the chapter itself for him and will add more to the background later.

Nero Custodia, Black Guard Space Marine

Nero was born on the Black Guard homeworld of Rikkonis to a family of aristocrats who controlled a large swathe of the mountainous world, Nero was the black sheep of the family, as the fourth son he wasn't going to inherit much of the family wealth so from an early age he had settled on a life n the local militia which was occasionally called upon to remove outlaws and infrequently mutants from the canyons and caves which dominated the planet's surface. Less intellectual than his brothers Nero had dropped out of school early and signed up for the military, everything was in order and he headed out to the Mount Falconsbane Training Ground where he spent the next few weeks being knocked into shape by a leather lunged Sergeant. On parade during his fourth week drill was interrupted by a warrior dressed in Black Armour, immediately recognising him for a Space Marine of the Black Guard the recruits and sergeant sprung to attention to salute the man. The Newcomer ignored the salute and simply walked down the line of recruits, meeting the eye of each momentarily, when he left he took with him two men, one of them was Nero.

Nero never knew why the marine had chosen him or even who he was as he never saw the man again during his training or even after he graduated into the 4th company. According to the tradition of the Black Guard he learnt the value of teamwork and unity amongst men. The Black Guard have a long history of working with the Ordo Heriticus as they have a particular intolerance of the witch and the traitor leading back to the Istvaan V massacres where their parent legion were decimated by treatury. Nero like many others is occasionally seconded to various high ranking members of the Inquisition though it is rare as it is an influential Inquisitor indeed who can command the respect of the Astartes

Nero wears the Black armour and Blue cloak of the Guard as well as the traditional white crested helmet, his shoulder pads display the Chapter Symbol of the Trojan helmet and the chevron to denote his rank of Sergeant. His complexion is Asiatic and his face covered in the scars of combat both frontline and ritual.

Are you familiar with the Dark Magenta Space Marine rules? They're in Issue 2 and are much better at representing Marines than just the arbitrarily high S & T values they were given in the LRB.
