Hey there,

I'll be playing Inquisitor soonish, and was wondering if you lot would look at the warband and let me know any issues or inbalance there. It's now draft 4 I think...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2827522/Inquisitor.pdf

Backstory problems that you notice would also be appreciated. Equipment is subject to change once I get models in hand, planet mentioned in the third bio is the one that we're using for our campaign.

EDIT: At request (But the dropbox version gets updated when I make changes and looks prettier):

Commandant Kæt Helvåta

Biography
Hailing from the Odertrek planet on the fringes of Imperial space, Commandant Helvåta was
abandoned at birth and taken by the local Sisters of Battle convent along with many other orphans
and abandoned children deemed strong enough to take the faith. When she was 12, the Tyranid
hive codenamed Schwarm attacked Odertrek. The Sisters of Battle convent were the only line of
defence – the closest Space Marine Chapter or Imperial Guard regiment being at least 6 months
away. Those who were aged 14 or older were taken to the frontlines to help protect the planet.
40% survived but the hive was fought off.
4 weeks later, some of those who were at the front lines began to itch and scratch themselves. 1
week afterwards, the youngest scratched at themselves so hard they did irreparable damage to
their inner tissue, and it was noticed their blood was turning green. 2 weeks later, the older ones
started to go berserk and fired upon civilians for no reason. Finally, the Tyranids spores that these
woman had ingested began to hatch.
1 in 10 women who survived the initial attack hatched various genestealer broods, which began to
overwhelm the Convent, with all but a handful uninfested and healthy – the rest did not survive the
brooding process. Kæt saw the first happen right in front of her, and immediately fired upon the
hatchling killing it dead and fled the convent taking various equipment from the armoury during the
chaos. Using the sisterhood's weaponry, she purged the whole convent with fire and called the
nearest regiment to do a full clean up.
Unfortunately, the nearest regiment was a Space Marine Chapter who performed Exterminatus on
the planet, shortly after handing her over to Inquisitor Degar. She spent the next 10 years of her life
training with him and his troupe as precursor to being selected to be a full Inquisitor. She is
devoted to the Emperor and will do what is right by him, but is focused entirely on finding the hive
that destroyed her homeworld, and fighting the rest of the Tyranid infestation.

Kalvø Jiko
Kalvø was brought up on the stories of Slarious Jut, the explorer who was famed for finding several
relics of a bygone age. He grew up with a taste for women and adventure. His quick mind and
reflexes meant his skills as a searcher for long forgotten artefacts was not only speedy, but safe –
any traps left by the guardians of the place he was taking, he considered slow.
His last adventure was when he heard tales of a sword of such immense power for those who
wield it. Tracking it down to it's hidden tomb, he planned to take it and hang up the adventuring
armour. Instead he discovered the sword Doelaert, bound with the soul of a lesser daemon beast.
The sword would never leave his side, and if someone took it from him he became in exquisite
agony until he was reunited with it.
Being forced to wear the sword at all times caused him no end of strife – not only did local law
enforcement not take kindly to it, he was barred from all the red light establishments he used to
frequent. Attempts to free himself from the sword lead to him going to a local chapel to seek
guidance. They attempted to release the daemon, which failed to release the daemon but
succeeded in opening a rift into the warp and caused Commandant Helvåta (under Inquisitor
Degar) to meet him for the first time when they came to intervene.
Following the closing of the rift, Kalvø was taken by Degar and was subject to execution, but Kæt
intervened, reasoning that his speed and mind would be beneficial when forming her troupe, and
his almost encyclopedic knowledge of history gave Kæt more details of the Tyranid infestation's strategy and tactics.
Kalvø was the first in Commandant Helvåta's regimen and owes his life to her – anything Kæt asks
him to do will be done unquestioningly, excepting suggestions to strategy.

Sil and Luk Knivmaular
Biography
Sil and Luk are twin brothers, born on the planet Yger, now consumed by the chaotic fiends in the
warp. The twins were born 3 months before the hole to warp space opened completely, and thanks
to their family's high standing were rescued moments before a Daemon Duke appeared and
swallowed the planet whole.
Such a birthplace interfered with they boy's embryonic development such that they were able to
interact with warp space at 3 years old - quite without meaning to. Eventually the power of the warp
drove Sil steadily down the road of madness, until he became unstable and launched a fearsome
attack on the townspeople on their new homeland. It took Luk and the whole college where he and
his brother were being trained to harness their power to subdue him.
The college were furious and called Luk in to help perform a ritual which warped Sil's mind. He lost
most of his empathetic abilities, and only did what Luk told him. Luk was bitter about him being
forced into essentially taking his brother's mind and ran away from the college with his brother
when they were 18.
Kæt and Kalvø discovered the twins on their way to Durnovaria while they were looking for the
Needle. Degar asked Kæt to look into a warp anomaly on the way and saw the brother's powers
over the warp were causing it. She recruited the brothers, seeing their power as a method of
tracking down the hive, or helping to sense a hive location, offering them the same protection from
the Imperium as Kalvø received.

Well, firstly:

WELCOME TO THE CONCLAVE!

Secondly, you'll get far better results if you post the stuff in the topic rather than asking players to download a PDF of your warband.
Remember, you're asking us to use our time here, so you want to make it easier for us to help you than having to go though a download site that makes us wait in order to sell "premium membership".

(Really, I don't know why hosting sites think that sells their membership. The chance I'll have to download enough from the site in the next year to make it worth the money is almost nil. Better would be giving benefits to the premium uploaders, removing waiting lines and bandwidth limits on their files.)

I'll take a look at some point, but it's two in the morning and I shouldn't be critiquing at this time of night...
S.Sgt Silva Birgen: "Good evening, we're here from the Adeptus Defenestratus."
Captain L. Rollin: "Nonsense. Never heard of it."
Birgen: "Pick a window. I'll demonstrate".

Only reason I'd set it as a pdf on such a horrible site was I didn't have time to upload it to my site. Plus, I was tired and not thinking. I'll copy the stuff across (I have tables and it's a pain in the arse to deal with them usually)

I like the focus of the warband- a solid narrative drive behind it makes for good plot hooks, and allows for 'snowballing' new characters and villains as the story progresses, based off games and plot twists. The backgrounds are suitably heroic for a team of humans hunting down an entire hive fleet, so no probs there. Maybe some special skills to reflect key elements of their background? Like the reliance of Sil on commands from Luk, or something to reflect Kæt's apparent enthusiasm for purging fire...

Rules and stats wise, these guys could use some boosting, I feel. The conclave has a useful guide for character creation on the intro page, but as a quick guide- stats in the 30's are (generally) your average, untrained human citizen. 50's are trained guardsman level, and a good baseline for henchmen. If skills and background means that a character will be better than average in a certain area, then stats in the low 60's reflect that well, while great focus will get you into the seventies. At the very least, I'd up Kæt's sagacity and speed. Speed wise, she can clearly run fast enough to escape a genestealer brood, and inquisition experience gives one a fairly good grounding in the Imperium's darker secrets...

Anyone would think I'd written the backstories first ;)

I was thinking of writing a rule that revolved around Sil's reliance on Luk. I couldn't see any in the rulebook that fit. Something like "Staying close to Luk means Sil doesn't go berserk and start firing fireballs everywhere".

As an aside, the live copy is the Dropbox version. The forum copy is probably obsolete (if I remember to copy when I update I will).

We can write that rule for you Paddy x

I'm making an educated guess that it's someone I know. Then again, the name DrugCrazed is my online handle everywhere. Maybe it's someone else.

Yes, we do know each other - indeed we're going to be in the same =][= campaign.

He should be able to work out who I am from my posted warband. He should also know by now that I'm everwhere.

I like the idea of having to take orders from the brother to fuction and going a bit 'fireball-y' if the brother goes OOA or similar.
