I happened upon the Third Edition version of this book in a charity shop the other day which, for £1.50, seemed a bit of a bargain and I wasn't disappointed.

I don't and never have played a GURPS RPG, but I found the approach of this book, whilst over-detailed for INQ, nevertheless a fascinating inspiration for more detailed combat rules, especially concerning unarmed combat and the distinction between game styles - realistic, cinematic, fantastic etc.

I'm still working through it and my thoughts and ideas may yet turn into a supplement for INQ2 but, obviously, I have to finish those rules first.  I just thought I'd recommend the book (third or fourth edition, given that we only want it as inspiration for INQ) for anyone wanting ideas to enhance or finetune combat or to design a martial artist character.

I've only ever chanced across GURPS in the odd post here and there and never really looked into it before. However, I definitely condone trying to get a practical unarmed combat system into INQ (or INQ2) rather than just lumping each other for D3+1 damage.

I'm not sure I'm that bothered about different game styles, although there are undeniably different approaches to games (the games I run are usually very cinematic, so realism is eschewed in favour of Blockbuster moments), but I would really really like to see a fairly generic unarmed combat system that, with a few modifications to the rules, can create different fighting styles. Maybe not specifically Judo, Karate, but larger umbrella terms such as Bar Brawler (he can step forward/step backwards in combat as a free action), Disarmer (can opt to Disarm an opponent rather than counterattack) or Kick Fighter (adept at using legs and feet, can make unarmed attacks at reach 2).

So with a collection of Unarmed Traits, each with a simple modification to the unarmed ruleset and thus easily memorable, you can create your own martial art system, give it a name and mention which Traits it encompasses to have an interesting and unique fighting style.
