Necron Size

I'm planning on making an Inquisitor scale necron. I bought some generic 54mm skeletons which I plan as using as my basis, but i realised that I have little idea of what the relative size of a Necron is. If the skeletons are 54mm, will I need to make them bigger for a start? If so, what size? Are they space marine sized, or the size of a tall human? Is it feasable that a necron could be smaller than the average necron, is there any possibility for size variation amongst those necrons that still have a personality, or are they built 'to spec' so to speak, and thus despite still having unique personalities are all the same size?

All help is appreciated.

I'm going to use these:

They are about 60mm, I'm not too happy with the heads, but everything else is in the ballpark.
Price was right, and the seller is reputable!

I think (fluff experts correct me here) that Necrons are perhaps the most enigmatic of all races in the 40K universe (by that I mean there is little definitive background on them).  As such, if you are creating one of the few with personalities then I'd say do what you feel.  Personally I would go for a slender and tall human (perhaps eldar-ish), mostly for aesthetic purposes.

I think that Necrons are an under-explored element in Inquisitor (largely due to the modeling difficulties combined with not wanting to speculate too much on the background of a race with its own army; a new codex could destroy lots of hard work).

Anyway, so yeah, I'd say somewhere between 58-60mm would work (or roughly 4-6mm taller than your average INQ model, I admit to not measuring mine and I'm sure "heroic 54mm" means they aren't 54mm at all).

I'd say that a Necron should stand a bit taller than an average human, even with the fact that they tend to be rather hunched.

Your best bet would probably be to combine your skeleton with plastic/brass rod, plasticard, greenstuff and parts from a Destroyer. Destroyer parts work really well on Inquisitor models - I've used them a few times, including on my Necron Pariah.
I like to remember things my own way... Not necessarily the way they happened.

For info, I'm working (very slowly) on a small Necron army with each Warrior being straightened to stand upright.  Once done, without any extension to their limbs, they each stand head and shoulders taller than an equivalent space marine.

I'd say that a typical Necron Warrior, done to true scale, should be about 65-70mm tall.  Using a skeleton armature is a good plan, because you'll be able to extend the limbs and sculpt the Necron parts on top.

I'm about halfway through a Necron Lord, and he's tall. About Space Marine height. However - he's not very hunched, and he is a Lord, with a special body. I'm scratch building most of it from tubing, wire and putty...

Sorry for the necromancy here, but as an update, my skeleton figures arrived today. They were cheap and russian, so I assume from the same company as those cyber-figures.

If you look at him next to the slick/devlan figure, bear in mind he isn't yet based and is also bent at the knees... Do you think that is an appropriate size, or should I extend the limbs a bit more?

Myriad

Straightened up he should be a full head and shoulders above Wicked Willie, which seems like enough, although for a really menacing look he could use a bit of extra height.

The model looks like a good base for a model, although the pose needs some work.
I had better point out, that some of the clubs I represent are of a military bent.

You know what you are?  A plywood shark!

Yeah the skeletons look like the have easier conversion potential than the cyborgs! I may have to get some now!

precinctomega

Straighten him up, for certain!  But he looks like he'll make a great 'cron with a bit of sorting out.

looks like it could be used, though it'd take a bit of work - and I hope that plastic doesn't do anything funny.

Even though Devlan is about the smallest model out there, straightened out and standing upright he should still be towering enough - though it wouldn't hurt to extend his legs a bit when you do straighten them.

Regarding the uniformity of necrons: well, they're not entirely so. I recall a time when necrons were blockier, more hunched over (and probably shorter), and had spiky guns; I still have a destroyer from that range. The only explanation is that different C'tan got their necrontyr servants to build different forms. Right?
