Macabre

...Or aka Something More Playable. With my Admech/Rogue Trader warband growing far too large and becoming more of an ongoing modelling project, and my Black Helix crew being somewhat relegated to NPC status, I started to look into creating another basic three/four man warband that I could use for everyday gaming (for the IGTs). I had hoped to write the full background story from the team's inception on Armageddon, the fracture, and eventual presence in the Carthax sector before posting the pictures, but its a long term thing that will take time to complete.

(The astute amongst you may spot where I drew my influence)

The models look very good, the greenstuff work is very well done, very crisp. But how did poor Cromwell die?
Circles of the wise My attempt at writing something, please comment on it if you have any advise.

Most probably whilst being accused of a crime he didn't commit. It's always the way.

I like Mac Vanderbilt, something about his pose looks to me like he's supporting the rest of the group. You've got a nice mix of dynamic and stationary poses on your characters, and as Dolkinian already said, excellent greenstuffing.

Some reeeeeally nice models, they're going to be hella fun to paint as well. Some comments in no particular order (other than the order that I think of them in ;) );

- Syzygy is simple but brilliant. Good combination of parts, works really well - I'd be tempted to attack it with massive coils of GS to recreate the bondage effect he already has on his legs, but I'm a modelling masochist like that.

- Judge Dead is awesome - it never occurred to me to use Typhus' legs in that way. Definitely now on my list of 'ideas to borrow' ;)

- Mk 10 (is that what you call him?) is a really cool idea, I never would have seen that potential in that model! Good job.

- Claude Soter's pose doesn't sit right with me. You can have dynamism in static poses, and this guy just doesn't have that. He has his feet planted wide apart like he's bracing himself against potent psychic forces, but his arms, head and facial expression looks like he's waiting for a sneeze. Throw his head back in an evil maniacal laugh, arch his body back and raise his arms aloft in a typical villainy pose. Perhaps bulk out his arms a bit as well - his head, feet and hands are all decent-sized, but he appears to have pipe cleaners for arms, but this could just be the angle of the picture taken.

- Being a bit of an Elysian aficionado, I think Skyhawk could do with a bit of extra attention if you're going for the authentic FW-looking Elysian. Specifically the lower half of the body - the upper half is pretty much spot on (although the Rule of Cool applies to the grav-chute here - who in their right mind would lug that thing around long after it was used? ;) ) but the lower half could do with a bit of a rework. The largest issue is the discrepancy between the fatigues on the arms compared to the legs - bust out the putty and sculpt some more patches of flak armour/padding onto the legs and I think that would even it up a bit. If you don't, the uneven-ness will be even more obvious when you come to paint it.  Also, shoulder and knee pads maybe? It'd help define it from the bog-standard Sgt. Stone model, which is unfortunately very recognisable.

- Mac Vanderbilt - spill the beans, where did you get that cool gun and backpack from? I've got a sneaky suspicion it's one of those trillion-year-old bits-box-lurkers that everyone has a couple of.. what was the source model?

An exceptionally cool bunch of models here.

I have often wanted to use Yeld wings on a model, and I'm glad to see the scale is fine.  What torso has been used on the daemonhost?  It fits very well with the legs.

I think that's one of the original Necron models from late second edition 40k on Vanderbilt.  Am I right?  I think I have one kicking around in a bits box somewhere... I may be tempted to find a model for it now.

Thanks for the comments ^_^

Where to start? I agree, the Elysian Armoured variant of Skyhawk probably needs some lower work done (which I'll get round to), although in the group's current timeline, the 10/GU variant (its a play on words *winks*) is the playable version.

Justicar's body/legs are from the Chaos Magus, Syzygy's body is from Be'lakor (which was a pain in the arse to fit right), Claude is just taking cues from the Blackadder actors (watch that one fly over peoples heads), but seriously, it was a crap angle to take the photo from, head on would have been better.

Finally, Vanderbilt is obviously Gruss' body/legs, Malicant sleeves, the arms/weapon are from the original Necron Immortals which I'm using as a graviton gun, the backpack was just something that's been haunting my bitzbox for ages...although I'm reasonably sure its the seat back from the old old metal SM Razorback.

some very nice models as usual.
It's all fun and games until someone shoots their own guy with a Graviton gun instead of the MASSIVE SPIDER.

So, we can assume he starts all his speaches with "WWAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHH unaccustomed as I am to speaking in public..." then, can we?

Wonderful models, I really like the '10/GU' armour, a creative model and pun-names are fun! Also, the deamonhost's name 'Syzygy' sounds familiar, were is it from?

@Robskib; speaking as an old Necron player, I immediately recognised the gun as being from the very first Necron Immortal models.

Syzygy is a scientific term relating to the alignment of three planets (normally the sun, earth and moon) resulting in either a luna or solar eclipse, or the luna and solar conjunctions (either full or new moon) and their gravitational effects on tidal formations. ^_^
