The only major issue with lightsabres is the beam of light how do you stop it from just being a stupidly powerful laser pointer?

The best recreation of a light sabre esk weapon is from the computer game No More Hero's



by giving it a frame the sword now becomes feasible and could be a deviation of a cutting arc turned weapon

There is no need to restrain the 'blade' of a lightsabre, arc wave technology being what it is. The 'blade' is effectively a standing wave and not a beam of light... Keep in mind that that 'beam of light' also exerts a strong gyroscopic couple...
If you're going to put frames round it and attempt to give it real physics then just abandon the idea of the lightsabre entirely. If you want a lightsabre then West End Games did a very good Star Wars RPG and WotC did a more recent one.
