Lichtenstein Rising...

Today's 'What's New Today' from GW features an oddly uncharacteristic plug of the Specialist Games range - including a return of Inquisitor Lichtenstein!

(And to 40k fans' delight, and eBayers' dismay, the Gideon Lorr model has returned as "Grey Knights Inquisitor with plasma pistol and power fist." Yay!)

INQ28, done properly, is at least the equal of its big brother - and Mol is one of the expert proponents of "done properly".

Hurrah, the return of Lichenstein! Considering that he is at the root of much of the background currently driving the Adeptus Mechanicus (his hunt for Pharaagulota, or however it was spelt, was triggered, in his background, by finding the texts of the "heretic monk Corteswain" - who appears himself in the Necron Codex. Old news for most I know, but I'm proud I can remember it), he deserves to be kept going.
Questions are a burden to others, answers a burden to oneself.

Well, we're approaching the 3rd anniversary of the GW-hosted Conclave dying, maybe that has some small significance?

I'm a little bit surprised by a sudden plug for the SGs. It'd be nice if it was a "While these aren't our main products, we think they're a great part of the hobby" like they say, but I don't think this modern GW really means it.
Yeah, the people they actually interview probably do mean it, but the corporate side isn't publishing it out of any love for these games. Love would involve actually replacing moulds when they wear out rather than just letting the model go OOP, and hosting the game's articles on their site where they would actually get found. (That the "Skoll Archive" has only shifted ~69 GB in 28 months shows that it doesn't get much use. That's equivalent to about five downloads of the biggest bulk pack a week.)

It'd be nice if this was part of a marketing strategy to try and better use the range of GW's IP and products, but I don't think any of us believe that's about to happen.

Still, nice to know that Phil still plays the game. Think we can coax him to the IGT? ;D

Not having a go at you*, but the K is in Skoll, not Marco.

*At least you're not calling me MacroSkull - which as far as I can tell, is a popular way of calling me bigheaded. (And yes, that was a very bad pun.)

If anyone has his contact details, let me know and I'll ask him...

I wish I had a warband that had some GW models in it :P

They rarely notice in my experience. I ran with non GW models last time as NPCs...  Not sure if its against forum rules to admit that particular bit of skullduggery.

As Adam says, the WHW staff don't really care, and I certainly won't be checking that your models are GW or self-sculpted.  So not having GW models shouldn't be a reason not to attend.

However, if the WHW staff do take exception to non-GW models being used then their decision is final...

I'll be honest, I hadn't heard of Skoll's archive before I rejoined the conclave. That said, when I decided to get back into Inquisitor it was naturally my first port of call anyway, so it wasn't long until I came across it.

I too was rather glad to see Lichtenstein. He was always my favourite of the characters we ever saw in white dwarf.
And the Saint did weep when she saw how lost the people were. Seven tears fell upon Gomorrah. Seven tears to wash away their sin. A deluge of heavenly tears drowned their world in an ocean of forgiveness. The people cleansed in a sea of nuclear fire.
