Tau first response team
« on: February 07, 2021, 09:21:42 PM »
Hey everyone,
Long time lurker first time poster. I'm wrapping up the last of my 54mm collection for an up coming campaign. It'll feature tau antagonists. I got the mold for two Air Cast pilots last year and I've put them to good use. Here are some W.I.P shots.

First up is a pilot sporting akimbo pule pistol and carbine

Up next is the mechanic of the crew, he will be controlling an escort drone during combat via the tablet in his left hand

Last but not least, we've got the leader of the bunch. He'll be holding an EMP grenade in his left hand.

Here's the 28mm versions of the model

I'll be working on a suit of XV-15 stealth suit once these guys are done, look forward to that!

looks great. i've also got a tau air caste pilot (i think the second fig) that was a poor bubble cast. I wonder if it was from the same person that you got your molds off (i got mine off ebay).

maglash1017, now that you mention it, I have a Kroot who's part of the First Response group. He

He's got a lot of spikey bits and an inquisitorial rosette from a previous contract.

I've used an Eldar bit to give him an implant purchased from Dark Eldar collaborators.

He's got three Mastiffs that he uses to track down his targets.

I've modeled his gun after the Needler from Halo

Hoping to get some more work in on the Air cast pilots later this week.

I like the implant in his back - that's pretty creepy and fits in well with his exotic, heavily modded vibe, as do the intimidating pack of flesh and blood mastiffs!  I'll be interested to see what colours you go with for this group.

I've got some work in this evening on the leader of the  Air cast pilots. I've started working on sculpting his legs and his hand.

First off heres a picture. I wanted the character holding some sort of imperial grenade.  Grenades seem utilitarian and their simplicity would alow them to transcend the snobbery a tau warrior might have for other weapons like las guns or plasma.

I'm not too sure what the grenade will actually be yet. I'm liking its silhouette so far!

Up next are the legs. The mold didn't do a good job of capturing the legs on this one, so I've sculpted some new ones out of solder wire and green stuff

I put a bit more work into another ones foot. Heres a picture of all three so far

Hoping to get these guys done by tomorrow and primed on Tuesday

Stay tuned folks

I've made some progress on the 4th pilot. I've decided to give him a railgun making him the designated marksman of the warband

What the process looked like

Up next, I'll be working on the feet, hands, and head of the pilot

I've made minor adjustments to another model as well. I've extended this guys arm

Hey everyone! I've gone ahead and primed the Air caste minis!

Here's the the pilot with a pulse pistol and imperial grenade

The sharpshooter of the group has been given a nice hat made out of a wheel from a 28 mm field gun wheel.  His head was sculpted from green stuff

Here's the long boy who will be controlling the drone

Last but not least, the pilot with the carbine and akimbo pulse pistol.

I'm back gang, and I've got a new suit. A XV15 stealth suit  8)

I've got a fire warrior body in a lot and decided that it would be fun to have an ncp in power armor with a jet pack and chain gun(deadly!)

I constructed a burst cannon out of a terminator arm and a burst cannon from the tau vehicle sprue.

I initially had him looking off into the distance.

I applied a chunky layer of green stuff to help make the armor feel thicker. I wanted to try representing a xeno bionic using the tau anesthetic.  I ended up using Eli Vance from Half Life 2 as a reference

I've decided to make him the leader of the cadre. It seemed like a good excuse to attach a samurai sword onto power armor.

A nice close up of the burst cannon

That's the last of the tau NPCs! The warband is primed and read to paint.

I'm not too sure which paint scheme to go with. Do you have any recommendations, reader?

Amazing - looks to be a deadly character in-game!

I'd probably recommend the classic beige T'au scheme as ive always liked the sandy colour with the blue glow of the tech

Hey gang, long time no chat. I've been super busy with work. Thankfully things are loosening up and I can show the progress I've been making! I've completed painting the tau cadre. I've settled on a blue uniform with yellow armored plating. I have a small amount of contrast colors for both, so it made sense for me to pick up contrast medium and try to run through the remainder of the pots.

Here's how the base coating turned out

I'll be posting the rest of the updates throughout the week

stay safe everyone.

the bionic leg suits the tau very well.
