Inquisitor Elm Duras

So. Myself and two others are having a grudge match. We've known eachother for over a decade and a half and have always disliked eachother and been competative. Tomorrow we will each run our warbands in one final game to decide who is the greatest player of us. The winner gets a trophy, a Kal Jericho mini, and the losers have to bow to the winner EVERytime they see him in the store. This has been a competition between us for years and now we'll play to see who is best. We've never played Inquisitor against eachother, so this should be good. Each of us is posting our warbands for all to see before the match.  Here is mine.

Inquisitor Elm Duras

Inquisitor Duras is a member of the Ordo Sepulturum and has been for the last twenty years. Inquisitor Duras is what is known as a Horusian. He believes that it is his duty to help find a way to use chaos to create a new body for the Emperor or transfer the Emperor's soul back into his body and allow him to rule the Imperium once more. Towards this end, Duras has spent decades searching for chaos infused artifacts, texts, and technologies that may help him achieve his ultimate goal.

Inquisitor Duras's background is almost entirely unknown. What few details that are known are derived from rumors and myths. What is known is that he was born on the now dead world of Hagar. Hagar was once a beautiful agri-world until a mysterious virus spread throughout the planet killing almost every living thing it encountered. After a few months, there were very few creatures that survived the virus, but one of those that had survived was an eight year old boy named Elm Duras. Inquisitor Maul of the Ordo Xenos, a Revivificator, came to Hagar to see the effects of this new mystery plague for himself and to study its victims. When Inquisitor Maul found young Duras, he took an immediate interest in the boy. He found, through his study of the boy, that Duras had an unusually strong immune system that protected him from a number of diseases. So Inquisitor Maul took the boy with him when he left Hagar thinking that he may have a use for young Duras.

Inquisitor Maul began training young Duras almost immediately. He educated Duras in all subjects and also taught him how to fight with both his head and his body. However, Maul also studied and experimented on Duras regularly. He subjected Duras to various viruses to see how strong his immune system was and if he could harness it. After eight years of training and experimentation, Maul was ready to give Duras his final and most dangerous test. One night, Inquisitor Maul exposed Duras to a creature that carried a daemonic virus that turns the creature's victims into a type of vampire. It was Maul's hope that Duras' immune system could fend off the virus and even grow stronger from its exposure. However, the experiment was only a partial success.

During the experiment, Elm Duras' immune system was temporarily overloaded by the virus. Though he eventually overcame the virus and his immune system did recover, he did suffer some permanent side effects from his exposure. Duras' appearance changed as his skin became a very paler hue and his green eyes turned a daemonic shade of red. The two largest changes that Duras went through were that his latent psychic powers had emerged and that he could now drain the very life force from other beings and use it to heal, regenerate, and revitalize himself. Unfortunately, Duras developed a great desire to feed on the life force of other beings and he had to learn to control this urge before it controlled him. Inquisitor Maul believed that the experiment was an overall success and believed that Duras was finally ready to take the next step and become his Interrogator. In addition to training Duras, he also allowed Duras to feed on the souls of those that were guilty of crimes or that were found to be unworthy to let live. It was during this time that Duras began to develop a desire to explore the powers of chaos that had granted him his new abilities.

Everything about Duras during his time as Inquisitor Maul's Interrogator is a mystery. Most suspect that during this time frame, Duras was introduced to the Revivicator philosophy and was possibly even inducted into a cell of like-minded Inquisitors. However, this is just speculation, but what is known is that after spending ten years as Inquisitor Maul's apprentice, Duras was promoted to full Inquisitor status, but instead of joining the Ordo Malleus like his mentor, he joined the Ordo Sepulturum.

Inquisitor Duras spent most of the next three years hidden from the prying eyes of the Inquisition. During this time Inquisitor Duras was being introduced to the Horusian philosophy by an elderly Inquisitor named Raza. In Duras, Raza found a young man who believed that chaos could be used as a tool, a weapon, and as a means to revive the Emperor or even create a new Emperor just as he believed. Raza immersed Duras in the Horusian beliefs and even inducted him into a cell of Xanthites and Horusians known as The Nigh[EXCOMMUNICATE]ch.

Today, Inquisitor Duras continues his quest for a way to resurrect the Emperor. He travels around the sectors surrounding the Eye of Terror looking for chaos infused artifacts and ancient technology. Anything that can progress the Horusian agenda. Inquisitor Duras has a habit of disappearing for a year or two at a time and then reappearing suddenly after destroying a cult, or hunting down a rogue psyker, or when a conclave is convened. However, he always remains silent about what he has been doing during these periods. At conclaves he sits amongst his peers, but rarely speaks on the matters at hand. Duras' colleagues all know that after each of his reappearances, he will soon disappear once again for an unbeknownst period of time.

Inquisitor Duras still very quietly feeds on those people that he believes don't deserve to live or that get in his way. So far, Duras has been able to hide his condition successfully from his colleagues, but he knows that it is only a matter of time till his condition is discovered. Duras has also developed a reputation amongst his colleagues as a cult destroyer. But what none but Duras and his closest team members know is that even though he has destroyed over a dozen cults, he has also founded over a dozen more that are loyal only to him. He uses these cults that he founds, both pro-imperial cults and chaos worshiping cults, to further his own means, and then destroys every trace of them once he is finished with them. Duras is a man on a mission. He is an Inquisitor, a Horusian, and a man with many secrets.

Lt. Tyron Brackus

Lt. Brackus was born on the planet of Necromunda. He was raised in the Schola Progenium there after his parents, both PDF officers, were killed by rebels. Though he was a fairly gifted athlete and possessed a natural ability with firearms, he was not one of the most promising or noticeable students. His tutors thought that he would do well in the Imperial Guard and so he began training to be an officer. Upon finishing his training, he was assigned to the 174th Dorian Rifle Regiment on the planet of Dorian II.

He spent the next eight years of his career traveling from one system to another fighting the enemies of the Emperor. His service though unimpressive, was honorable and brought out a natural leadership ability in him that earned him the respect of the men who served under him. It wasn't until his company arrived on the agri-world of Galondon that his career took an important turn.

On Galondon, the 174th received a new cadre of preachers that were assigned to help protect the souls of the men of the 174th. What none knew though was that the priests were actually followers of the chaos gods. Within six months of their arrival, they had corrupted almost the entirety of the regiment. They convinced the guardsmen that chaos was a form of the Emperor and that those regiments that didn't follow their doctrine were traitors. This led to several conflicts with loyal guard regiments. Conflicts that made Lt. Brackus question the regiment's new priests.

It was at the final battle that saw the 174th destroyed by a combined force of seven guard regiments that brought Lt. Brackus to the attention of the Inquisition. Inquisitor Duras was observing the campaign to ensure that the traitor guard regiment was destroyed. At the conclusion of the campaign, Inquisitor Duras interrogated the survivors of the 174th. It was during Lt. Brackus' interrogation that Duras found that Brackus was not disloyal to the Emperor, but was lead down the wrong path because of his devotion to the Emperor. Duras gave Brackus a choice. Serve him, and through him the Emperor, or die a traitors death. Brackus agreed and has since served Inquisitor Duras faithfully so as to ensure the salvation of his soul. Duras has introduced Lt. Brackus to his some of his ideas and Brackus now believes that Duras will succeed in bringing the Emperor back to mankind.

Brother-Cultist Johnus Orr

Johnus Orr was born on the hive world of Teral and for most of his life he was just an ordinary Imperial citizen. His parents were humble shop owners and devout church goers.  Johnus Orr probably would have followed in their foot step if, at age twenty, he hadn't met Jeremiah Froz.

Froz was one of several leaders of a growing local cult known as the All-Seers. They were a cult dedicated to the worship of the Emperor as a chaos god. They believed that he ascended to godhood upon his entombment in the Golden Throne. In Orr, Froz found a man who would do whatever was asked of him in the Emperor's name. And so it was that Orr was inducted into the All-Seers.

Orr spent the next fourteen years as a devout member of the All-Seers. He was one of their most dedicated members and the best they had at capturing people that his masters desired. He was instrumental in the kidnapping of several prominent members of the community. However it is almost impossible for a cult to stay hidden from the eyes of the Imperium forever and these kidnappings only highlighted to the local authorities that they had a new cult problem.

It was Inquisitor Duras that came to the world of Teral to help resolve their cult problem. He, along with a company from the local PDF, hunted down and killed or captured every member of the cult in a single night of bloodshed and chaos. Those very few that survived that night and were captured were interrogated and sentenced to death. But Duras saw something in Orr during his interrogation. He saw a misguided, but devoted man who could be very useful. He knew that he could convert Orr to his philosophy and use him as a member of his retinue. So Duras made Orr the offer of either joining his warband or dying. Orr gratefully agreed to join Inquisitor Duras and has since been an instrumental member of Duras' team. He is frequently used to infiltrate cults or help guide them to achieve whatever goal Duras has for them.

Sirius 1822

Sirius 1822 has had his identity and personal information erased from all Imperial records. So no one knows what terrible crime he committed to deserve having him turned into Arco-flagellant. What is known about Sirius 1822 is that he was created on Ophelia and was one of 420 arco-flagellants that were assigned to be transferred to Cadia to bolster the defenses of the Ecclesiarchy's facilities throughout the region.

It was on the journey to Cadia that the transport ship carrying the arco-flagellants was attacked by pirates just outside the Cadian system. For eight hours, the crew and the two Adaptus Sororitas squads that were assigned to guard the cargo fought off the boarders, but were loosing. Just then, Inquisitor Duras' ship was passing near the area and came to the rescue of the transport. Duras and his forces were able to destroy both of the pirate's ships and helped to repel the boarders still on the transport.

After the battle Inquisitor Duras took two of the arco-flagellants, Fabian 968 and Sirius 1822, stating that they were to replace the warriors that were lost during the battle with the pirates. Fabian 968 was killed shortly after Duras acquired him. However Sirius 1822 still serves Duras and has become one of his favorite tools of killing. Because of this, Sirius 1822 often accompanies Duras on his missions.

Daemonhost Gorus

The daemonhost known as Gorus has been under the control of Inquisitor Elm Duras for over a decade now. Bound within the host is a daemon prince of Tzeentch named Gorus. He was the ruler of a daemon-world until it was lost to the forces of Khorne. He then spent centuries drifting about the warp fighting the causes of his patron until he was bound by Inquisitor Duras on the rogue moon of Jordan's Run. Gorus was on the rogue moon, conquering it in the name of Tzeentch when Duras found him. Gorus and Duras battled for hours and in the end, Duras defeated Gorus and had him bound to the body of a dying guardsman. Since that battle, Gorus has been Duras' servant and has been Duras' guide to the creatures and the mysteries of the warp. Their partnership over the years has developed from master and servant to a warped and twisted version of master and pet. Gorus, though he hates being bound, almost enjoys instructing the Inquisitor and battling the various enemies that he encounters.

Sanch

Sanch is a mutant from the streets of Ura III. He was born to a poor mutant family in the slums of the largest city on the planet. Growing up was hard for him as it is for most mutants. He was born with a tentacle and a condition that made his skin rot and fall off. He was an outcast in the eyes of most humans. When he was ten years of age, he was drafted into the service of one of the planets many quarries. After nine years of slaving away for sixteen hours a day and barely making enough money to feed himself, he decided that there must be a better life than this. So he ran away one night and never looked back.

He spent several months working any job he could find. Then one day he met a man from one of the richer provinces outside of the city. He offered Sanch work as a guard and a place to stay. Seeing as he had no other options except to starve, he accepted. He spent the next five years working as a guard for the man's city home along with several other mutants.

Finally after five years of service, the arbites came and raided the man's home. The mutants fought hard to protect their employer, but could not hold off the hordes of arbites. Sanch managed to escape the massacre. The next six months were extremely hard on Sanch. Then One day, the Emperor's grace shined upon him.

While traveling through a part of the city, he was attacked by several masked men who were part of an anti-mutant hate group. Sanch fought hard and managed to defeat his attackers. But unbeknownst to him, Inquisitor Duras was passing by and watched the fight. Duras saw a mutant as a tough fighter that could become a valuable commodity. So Duras offered Sanch a new life. Sanch leapt at the offer and has proven his worth to the Inquisitor several times over.

I'll See You On The Flip Side Or I'll See You In Hell!
-Inquisitor Elm Duras

Kaled

Sorry to only post this in one of your threads, but welcome to you all. A couple of points - firstly, where are the pictures? If you're playing a game, you must have models, and we'd love to see them - especially if they're 54mm (or nicely converted 28mm stuff). Secondly, are these characters all just for a single game? If so, I hope you're all experienced players as three players with six characters each is a lot...

Actually, now that I think about it I have more questions... What's the scenario for your game going to be? Just to wipe out your opponents? Or something  a bit more interesting? Will you have a GM? How about taking some pics of your game and writing a battle report for us?

Anyway, enough with the questions - hope you enjoy your game.

- Dave
I like to remember things my own way... Not necessarily the way they happened.

We all do have 54mm figures. I don't know about them, but I can post some pics later today. My fiance has my camera. We are all experenced players. Mitch and I started when the game first cam out and Christopher about a year later.

I'm posting the game in a few minutes. We started playing early this morning and the post will have all the info.
