I vaugely remember this coming up in a previous thread, someone mentioned treating nanites like a gas - makes sense, microscopic lillte widgets floating about - and (crucially) invisible to boot. If you go down the grenade route why not give them a reasonable blast area, with a subsiquent gas length of effect .

To stop the game slowing too much, you might consider a delayed reaction as the nanites (or acid droplets, whatever) work their way into the components, producing and effect a turn or two later - tracked by the GM.

Grenade use might become a little more tactical. Tech-Adept hears small detonation, walks around corner, nope, nothing....carries on down the street, then suddenly starts a Bender impression before turning into a living statue and being abused by the younger inhabitants of the underhive....
