Seeing as modelling is the most time consuming part of Inquisitor (but also one of the most enjoyable!), I promised myself that over my exam period I wouldn't star any new threads on here about my WIPs. However, to celebrate the first of 8 exams being out of the way, I'm displaying my most recent project. Unless there are any further suggestions/urgent criticisms, i think he's ready to go on to the painting stage.

The base model is Sacred Blade's cyber-paladin model, customised with various bits of 40k stuff. One of the things that is most striking about 40k and that sets it apart from all other model lines is that it mixes elements of different time periods very effectively. Thus i tried to offset the sci-fi of his cyber-armour with a fairly barbaric looking polearm and impaled skull trophy rack. Then to add to this blend of sci-fi and barbarian, I added a shield to make him seem even more knightly, and then I added a powerpack with wires in, because in my experience, you can never have too many wires!

Enough with the ramble, on with pictures! Comments/criticisms welcomed.

Necris

Looks good though I'd shorten the glaive

If you ever get chance to hold a weapon like that the weight of the blade makes the whole thing very heavy in the hand, half the length and it becomes a shorter thrusting weapon (I have a similar plan for a feral world savage)

This here is my very favourite gun...I call her rita.

What would the armour count as? Would it be power armour or some kind of plate?

With the shield, it could be some kind of spear, 300 esque, though it'd be interesting to see it turned into some kind of hatchet for hacking people into small chunks :D

Is that meant to be a power source on his back? Or does he have some crazy inbuilt flamer hooked up to his gauntlets?

Caralinus

Very cool, you should give him a topknot, Mad Max style.

The armour is meant to be powered, but not full-on space marine power armour. It's a lot more basic, and thus offers a pale shadow of the benefits of the real thing. The thing on his back is a power system, the wires leading to the legs, arms and head. This is meant to show that he has strength enhancements to the arms and legs of armour, but they're the only 'powered' parts. The rest is heavy plate.

The long polearm is purposeful; he uses the strength enhancement afforded to him by the armour to wield his old tribal weapon in a single hand, leaving the other free for a shield. To balance his high strength and decent WS (probably about 60), he will have a low I and no ranged weaponary (his tribe had spiritual beliefs about 'honourable combat'). The shield is something he carries to protect himself from the 'dishonourable shooting' of the enemy. A bit cliched, i realise, but it fits his model so well!

Anyway, thanks very much for the input.

Bigger Wires, I say. Or bundles.... Liking it a lot though. The Aquila belt is excellent.

Are those the brass things that you ordered from forge world? If so I think I will be buying some as well, there very nice! Also I love the model concept and love the battery powered suit :P What colour scheme were you planning on using?
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Time to die.

Myriad

Nice.  He is holding  that halberd a bit nearer the base than would be normal, but that just gives the impression of unusual strength (in keeping with his armour et al).
I had better point out, that some of the clubs I represent are of a military bent.

You know what you are?  A plywood shark!

I think I agree with the bigger wires comment, although i can't really make the wire going to the head much bigger as it has to fit between the 'prongs' of the trophy rack without going too far up. The colour scheme i think will be a nice black and dark blue for the armour with gold inquisitorial symbols and boltgun metal weaponary and wires (to contrast the shining imperial stuff with the more crude primitive metal weapons). Also, the bits that look like lengths of material are going to be painted up like parchment with writing on (my modest painting abilities permitting), to add to the 'Inquisitorial bully boy' feel.

The logos are from Forge World's 'grey knights / inquisition' brass etch pack (which i absolutely love - although it's quite pricey), the exception being the Aquilla which came from the GW basing pack's brass etch.

As for the polearm, i thought it would make sense that he would hold it close to the (hefty looking) counterweight for better control and also, as you say, it adds to the impression of strength and power.

Thanks for everyone's comments and input.

A very nice model. I love the Aquila belt, simple but innovative. My only problem is that in a melee his rear is incredibly vulnerable. There is not much point to his plate armour if the power plant makes such a juicy target.

True, but it's nice for a model to have an 'achilles heel'. All my models, barring Zophar, seem to have a large vulnerable target on the back... Severin has his power-source, willie his explosives, and now this guy has his power pack. My inquisitor is going to have a flamer pack on his back, as is one of my Battle Sisters, and the other is going to have a regular marine power pack on her back. I definitely need to make some special rules for back attacks (beyond those for backstabs)....

It looks good to me. I think that it would look even better if he was holding the weapon handle at about the halfway point.

Do you have the same problem with Space Marines?  ;)
