I was going to post a few picture up just as the Conclave went down but I've been making progress with my resin armature and not knowing quite what to use it for decided to do a Penal Legionnaire, possibly an escapee but never-the-less seconded for use by the Inquisition.

Now that's a fantastic start. The job you've done on the locks and chains is particularly impressive.

Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

Captain L. Rollin: "Nonsense. Never heard of it."

I'm not sure if I should give him a stubby shotgun of some kind or a small smg. He's meant to be wearing dungarees (eventually I'll give them a nice orange paint job) and I'll probably give him another shackle round his waist; I figured he was wearing a full set of shackles but broke them and got loose or got loose and then broke them. I need to make him a new head too.

From the perspective of SMGs being very under-used in Inq, it wouldn't hurt to go that way - but don't let that stop you using the shotgun if you've got a good reason to choose it.

Now that he's in the service of an Inquisitor, will he still have his explosive collar?

Sub-machine gun. It has to be. A nice, compact autoweapon firing caseless 10mm ammunition from strip mags held above the barrel in a bullpup comfig (see the G-11 for ideas)!

Or something unusual like an Owens gun, or, even more comical, an SM-Laser - like a mini multi-laser, perhaps.

Brilliant start, too!

Caralinus

I like the look of the owens gun, seems ugly enough to be given to a Penal trooper.

As for the collar, I hadn't even considered it. Since I don't recall them being mentioned too much since RT I suppose you could say that some Penal Legions use them and some don't. In any case they need a Mechanicus adept to detonate them so at least he's safe, maybe!

I quite like the idea of it though, I might put one on, or at least see what I can come up with, I don't want his neck to end up looking unfeasibly stretched so I'll have to see if I can make something that looks right but doesn't throw out his proportions.

Until someone uses machine empathy to detonate it!  ;D

nice pose. you got a background for the character? I had a look in the other forum but I am largely blind and absent minded so didnt see one!

what is the sculpting material used here as it looks very crisp and less rubbery than GS.

Nope, no background yet.

The putty is Grey Stuff (ProCreate), a little more plastic than Green Stuff but more-or-less similar. It's nicer to cut and file too as it takes a nice crsip edge but it can be fairly hard when filing and like Green Stuff gums up a file pretty quickly. The only other thing I do is mix in a blob of Vaseline.

A great start, but are the leg irons practical?  I was under the impression Penal  :-X Legionnaires were fitted with explosive collars. Or am I confusing my Sci-Fi?

They can be fitted with explosive collars but what difference does it make. That's the benefit of making your own models, they can look however you want and I wanted mine with shackles :)

Great start, it's good to see all the self-sculpting going on now (sign of the economic times? Or that GW need to broaden their range? I dunno). I love the manacles on that guy. They might hinder his walking a little bit, but they aren't so heavy, and his pants seem baggy enough to soften it a bit.

Indeed, his pants seem rather too baggy, on the right legs. Do you intend to smooth that off? Or is the guy just suffering from penal legions recieving arse-end of munitorium deliveries?

I also think a sub-machinegun would be cool. With Skoll's revised armoury (gratuitous advertising, yay! ;D) there are 6 different models of sub-machine gun. I like to dole them out to mooks, often.

Fair enough ;D. Impressive modelling.

Probably a little of both, but probably more the latter.

At least in my case. I got fed up of the loss of the individual part codes and things disappearing off the range.
