Well, as the name says,  I have a question about compatibility.

Well, various weapons spring to mind.  Bolters for bolt pistols, most of the swords are actually a good size for inquisitor, although not as heroically proportioned as may be preferred.  Alot of models, including two of my most recent warband, have used 40K chainswords, and as I recall someone merging two of them to create a longer weapon.

Ork hands, as I recall, have also been put to good use.  Many models can also be used as is, the forgeworld greater knarloc being an example that springs to mind.

To summarise, if you can imagine a use for it most parts are compatible.
I had better point out, that some of the clubs I represent are of a military bent.

You know what you are?  A plywood shark!

Ork/Orc and Skaven arms, Marine hands, Terminator helmets often get used as facemasks, etc.

Many weapons, particularly if you're prepared to do a little bit of creative cutting and gluing.
This (although a bit messy in that picture) was the result of an hour or so cutting up bolters, lasguns, and a plasmagun. It was a little bigger than I wanted it to be, but it's still picked up a fair few complements as a design.

As Myriad says, you can get use out of many things - or anything, if you're creative enough.
S.Sgt Silva Birgen: "Good evening, we're here from the Adeptus Defenestratus."
Captain L. Rollin: "Nonsense. Never heard of it."
Birgen: "Pick a window. I'll demonstrate".

GW's =I= articles

I like that gun.

Just have a look at what you've got and do some experimenting (Which is fun even if you don't get anywhere).

Most 28mm GW weapons are actually pretty much the same size as true scale 54mm weapons.
