strange... the pic wiothout the head is all okay in terms of scale... as soon as the helmets is on he seems "out of size" somewhat... but cool idea with the removeable helmet

I think that's probably just how the helmet sits - it's a little higher than it is on GW sculpts, on top of the shoulder pads instead of between them.
That would make his neck pretty damn long. Or maybe just a lot of machinery in front of his face in the mask of the helmet.

The thing with GW termies is that their arms are too high and their shoulders too wide, in my opinion anyway. With this one, I've altered the chest plate so that the arms can be closer to head (the problem I saw was not so much how wide the shoulders were per se but the gap between the innner arm and the chest is inhumanly wide) and also so that the arms would have a better range of motion; the marine still can't put his arm right across his body because the armour won't allow him to get close enough to himself but that's what happens when you wear armour several inches thick.

I think your realistic version of the termie is great. even the boots. Fits in much better with Inquisitor and is perhaps more imposing than its 28mm counterpart because it is believably a Superhuman in a game of lost souls and failing men.

but the face in the front of the belly and the chainmail in the back look a little bit "chaotic" to me.
but it is still very cool!

and get some foundation colours, they work really good!
i always add some water because i like them a little bit less concentrated.
just get one and try it on a dummy.

so, hurry up! i wanna see it finished!


p.s.: which sculpts did you use? i recognized one of them as green stuff. but the other?

I have indeed got a box of Foundation Paints so that should be me sorted for a while. I've used Green Stuff, Grey Stuff (ProCreate) and Milliput. I've also used different mixes of GS and ProC which is why I did have blue putty on the model and also some very dark green on the chapter icon.

Well my chapter, the Prophets of Hatred do indeed have and have produced more than their fair share of lost souls. Obviously he's massive but what I hope is that, despite the size and the armour people can see that it is armour and there's someone inside. I've often heard people unfamiliar with the background look at marines and think them to be robots and I reckon that's mostly down to the crazy stances and odd proportions.

Thanks. I've been painting him glacially slowly but I just find painting so dull it'll probably be a long while until he's finally finished.

I've just started the very first steps of making my own Space Marine as it happens. I was working on a truescale marine a few months ago and sculpted an unarmoured marine so I could put armour on to him and mke look as realistic as possible but the 54mm version should be a lot more accurate. Of course this is going to be a scale miniature, not heroic proportioned so whilst he is 65mm tall (I've gone for seven foot marine) he's quite a lot smaller than Artemis.
