Finally getting round to posting something of note rather than just a hello.

I have been reading through most of the modelling threads and decided that the original models I made when i first got into inquisitor at release are not worthy of being posted and the paint on them is not exactly up to my current standards etc.

So after a bit of a clean up and dismantling here are the models I have so far assembled and a bit of the character backgrounds for them.

First up is my monodominant xenos hunting warband.

This is the inquisitor Felix von Dracovite, he comes from a fuedal world where the nobles follow a strict code of honour and as such he is unable to use ranged weapons.  Similar to that of the Brettonian background.  He is on a crusade to ride a number of worlds of the xenos taint that has inhabited them and picks up guard vets who have experience in the individual species as he goes, to form members of whis warband.  I ill post details in the background forum at some point.

This is his squire and body servantwho is yet to be named, obviously not noble so is entitled to carry firearms/ranged weapons .

Dr Xavier Crossland, a no adeptus researcher who has studied indpthly into the biology of xenos creatures.  The works he has completed is the book he is carrying which some inquisitors wish to destroy while Felix wishes to make use of it to help erradicate all the xenos in the galaxy.

I intend to add a couple of guard vets to the warband but not run all the models at once, one will be an Armegeddon Ork Hunter Vet based of Sgt Stone and another is to be an Ultramar PDF storm trooper vet with Tyranid combat experience.

Finally not part of the warband but will post anyway is my deathwatch maringe Veteran Battle Brother Methias Ermine.

I intend to have plot hooks into the monodominant warband through one of his relations.

Anyway that should be enough for now.

Any comments critisms or advice please feel free.

Well you can do what you want, the technical branch are going to stay here and keep her afloat!! - Diesel CPO Otto Fricke, U505, Nov 10 1942 - On being ordered to abandon ship.

Van Helser

These look like nice conversions, though the pictures are a little blurry.  Are you taking the pictures with the camera in your hand?  I find that doing so usually means some shake gets in there and blurs things, especially on macro mode.  A good tip is to set the model and camera up six inches apart or so, and use the timer on the camera to get a good, blur free shot.

MarcoSkoll

Basically the same thing as Van Helser said - they look like good models, but the photos don't do them justice.

You might find the guide I wrote on taking photos useful.
S.Sgt Silva Birgen: "Good evening, we're here from the Adeptus Defenestratus."
Captain L. Rollin: "Nonsense. Never heard of it."
Birgen: "Pick a window. I'll demonstrate".

Yeah I didnt really check how good/bad the photos were until I put them up, is night now so will try and get some better pics tomorrow.  I rushed the photos a bit because the battery was about to die.

Forgot to add that the disk on the ground next to Felix is eventually going to be glued onto his arm as a shield.  the disc is from the fortified manor house terrain for fantasy and is suitably macbre for a shield.

Looking forward to the new pics, they seem like nice elegant combinations of parts.
And the Saint did weep when she saw how lost the people were. Seven tears fell upon Gomorrah. Seven tears to wash away their sin. A deluge of heavenly tears drowned their world in an ocean of forgiveness. The people cleansed in a sea of nuclear fire.

Ok

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to this thread, had a few issues with the house which required attention then followed by the weather being dark and raining here for the last we while.

So new pics which are of a somewhat better quality, and more progressed.

First up the inquisitor.  I have undercoated him and started to work on his robes and other major (non metalic) areas of the model.

As you can see I have gone for blue to represent his monodominant beliefs and ordo xenos afiliations.  At this stage I haven't thought to what extent I want to weather him as I have not had to much pactice with weathering models.

Next up is Felix's still unnamed squire and dog's body.

Again is only basecoated, but with spot colours to tie him in with Felix and other members of the warband.

Next is Dr Xavier Crossland.

Xavier is the most progressed of my models currently.  As mentioned earlier is non adeptus so less bionics and red for a character which is knowledged based than usual.

Finally progress on the marine

Not much just base coated and blue spot colour (Ultramarine) but included for completeness and better photo.

Comments and criticisms are welcome.

Backyardpatrol

Wheres the sword from on the Inquisitor?

blacknight

The sword is from either from the new Grey knight Terminators.

It is possibly a little big for a normal sword on an inquisitor but oh well will call it a bastard sword most likely.

They look good, where is the squire's shield from, I recognise it but can't seem to place it.
Circles of the wise My attempt at writing something, please comment on it if you have any advise.

jakob

The shield is from the old Warhammer Empire spearmen, I think, though I could be wrong.
I'm liking the models btw, simple but effective conversions. I'll be following their progress for sure.

(right, no more hanging around, I am going to get me some models and start bashing them together, I might as well contribute to this site instead of all the lurking  ::) )
Medic! MEDIC! . . We need some super-glue over here!

Hey All

Sorry been a while since my last post/update on this one.

As Jakob said the shield is from the old warhammer box set spear men.

So on to progress.  There has been a bit with the original figures having additional paint applied while some of the other characters starting to have models put together.

First up is pogress on the inquisitor himself.

He has had the base coat for all areas completed now and I have been working up the highlighting as well.  The main outstanding areas to complete are the gloves, the hair and the areas that are to be metallic colours.  The shield is being done seperate and has had no progress on it yet.  The base also needs to get painted, will be a rusty metallic for the perferated plate with either gery/brown dirt for the rest.  What is the recommendation of the conclave for the better basing style, if there is one.

Next up is his faithful squire.

Similar progres to Felix.  The flak jacket is painted with shadow grey then highlighted with codex grey. I need to get myself some new dark angels green to do his trouser with.  The guns and the symbol on the shield will both be done in metallic silver (most likely chain mail)

Next is the Xeniologist Xavier

Again progress is like Felix and the squire.

On with the rest of the warband

The first is going to be Felix's ship captain and the second is the first of 4 Imperial Guard vets who will form part of Felix's largerr warband.  This vet is to have experience fighting Tau and will be from a more formaly dressed guard regiment (ie Vostryan/Mordian)  This ships captain is going to be modelled wiht one of his arms half lost in a previous boarding action, the details of why he does not have ionics are going to be covered in his backstory.

lastly a bit of eye candy in the form of my deathwatch marine.

Still only a work in progress at this stage but with most of the main areas done.  The grenades, boltgun, evissorator, backpack and metallic areas still need to be completed. A rather heavy application of weathering will need to be applied ot him along with the other models.

Weathering is a technique I have not really tried yet for any minatures so I will most likely be trying it on a few of my 28mm figures fist to get the idea I want going for it then progress tot he 54mm.  Does anyone know of some good techniques for starting into weathering of models?

Anyway comments and criticism welcome.

Adlan

Utterly fantastic set of WIP's. I love the dogsbody, but all of them look very promising.

Damon

Lovely models. I love the inquisitor the most. His pose with the sword really works well with the flowing of his robes making it look like a fluent, dynamic pose. Good use of spot colours too - it ties them all together nicely.

In terms of weathering I tend to use a Devlan mud wash on areas of cloth. For metal items stilple on some orange paint as rust and give it a couple of washes of badab black and Devlan mud. For painted metal, paint chips and scratches with chaos black with a spot of boltgun metal over the top. It's simple weathering but looks pretty good IMO.

Dolnikan

These models are very nice. The xeniologist looks like he doean't like being in combat and simply protects his book, I like that, it makes for a change from the usual battle-ready characters.

Thanks for the positive feed back guys.

Sorry there hasnt been much progress on this recently.  I have amanged a little bit of painting and will put the progress up over the weekend at some point.

Thanks Damon for the weathering techniques.  I will try some of them out, do you know what the older paint equivalent of delan mud is?

Most of the area of metal I will try to have not so rusty (excluding the bits on the base) as they tend to look after them (well these models so far at least).

Xenoloigist is meant to really not be a combat character so glad that the ideas managed to convey well.

In an aside I won an ebay auction the other day for the following 13 models so a few more WIPS might be starting soon.
Covanent x2
Gruss
Barbaretta
Bounty hunter
Judge (yay really wnate this)
Malicant
Von Casteallion
Major Jackson
Sergeant Black
Damien
Cherabul
Quavindous

Anyway enough talking for now.
