Eldar Heads for all?! NOW AVAILABLE TO BUY (see p2 for details)

Back in January I think, I showed off WIP sculpts by John Pickford of some Eldar heads in 54mm, with the intention of getting a set of 4 or 5 completed. Due to other sculpting committments (which I think pay more cash!), John and I put the project on hold temporaily, before agreeing a few weeks ago to limit the heads to finishing the two WIPs shown.

Anyway, I have now received the heads, and am exploring opportunities to get them cast up.

Some piccies:

Scale shot with the bare ranger head

Helmet with an integral rebreather on a Ranger figure

Psychic hood angry Eldar face, also on the Ranger

Time for your close-up Mr Angry! (note, the brown stuff is very shiney, hence all the strange highlights.

The neck join has be designed to sit neatly on the Ranger torso, complete with a little 'nub'.

I currently have two options - I can just glue these sculpted heads to my figures and leave it there, or I can pursue casting. Casting is obviously going to be cost dependent, and I need to find a caster who can get these done at a reasonable price point.

If I get these cast up, I would be interested to hear if anyone is interested in one or more sets (I'll be selling as a set of two, not individual heads - sorry), and what sort of ball park price would be interesting for you.

Cheers

Jon

I'm guessing from the stunning silence that there's no interest in getting casts of the heads. I suppose it's less hassle for me ;)

Feel free to post if you think otherwise!

greenstuff_gav

personally, i think it's a great idea; i rather like the helmeted head :)
just don't think i have a use for 'em myself (but if they'm cheap may grab one :) ) ...

if you find a caster, let us know (especially who it is; Grey Matter are flaky at the mo :( ) further details :D
i make no apologies, i warned you my ability to roll ones was infectious...

I would be interested in casting :)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Time to die.

I would be interested, if these were cast, in investing in a set or two of these heads.

If you get them cast I'd be interested in a set or two depending on the price (definitely one as I can't imagine it being astronomical).

axiom

Excellent - that's enough of a response to look seriously at the casts. I'm waiting back on a price for resin casting - if anyone has any recommendations of casters, I'd love to hear them.

Cardboard Carnage

I'd take two sets of them if you do casts, they are great!

Update time!

OK, to date I've had one initial decent price, then silence for a fortnight, several not interested/don't have time, and plenty of no replies from my approaches to casters.

Does anyone have any suggestions of any companies / individuals who would provide a casting service?

Thanks

Jon

I like the look of the first 2 heads. Not so keen on the 3rd one.

the 2nd 1 is the actual ranger head (IIRC) and yes I like it as well.

I lost mine... sniff...

Would you consider self casting? I know Marco's about to try it... Also, have you tried Troll Forged? they mostly do 28mm, but this should be of interest to them.

I like 'em both, and could see a space for them in the future. I have schemes, you see. Scheeeemes...

That said, an eldar showing rage? An emotion? He must be feeling lucky.

Yeah, the one in the middle is the actual GW head.

Never mind! Can't please everyone. The pics aren't entirely true to life because of the high gloss finish which I think knocks out some of the detail.

TF have been contacted (no reply as yet). I'd like to avoid self-casting to be honest - I don't really want to invest in the equipment for a one -off!

From what I can tell, its mostly the supplies - the box can be made from Lego, and a hair trimmer can be used in place of a vibrating table... And some art shops have small, cheapish (in the 20 euro region, in one in Dublin) resin casting kits for designers looking to make duplicates.
