Quotedo you know what the older paint equivalent of delan mud is?

Brown ink is probably the closest. Chestnut ink is a reddier brown but could maybe do. You could always try some watered down scorched brown as well. I'm a big fan of the new washes. If you're going to use it on a lot of models it may well be worth going for devlan mud. IMO it gives a nicer effect than the old inks but they'll still do a good job.

QuoteMost of the area of metal I will try to have not so rusty

If you don't go for rust then I just suggest doing a brown or black wash. Gives a nice depth to the metal and looks good with very little effort.

Looking forward to seeing the progress on these models and some exciting new ones with all those new models you just got!

Thanks for that Damon

sorry about the massive delay in replying been a bit busy.  This will also most likely be the last update for a few months as I start military training next weekend so modelling and posting will be on hold.

So on with the updates.

First of all the squire showing a partially finished base (needs highlighting still) and painted and detailed metallics on the model.  This model is now finished apart from the base.

Next up is the second of the guard vets who will form part of Felix's extended warband.  This guard vet hails from Cadia and is a veteran in fighting elder, as such he will have a bionic eye with motion/heat detection (havent decided which) as well as the underslung grenade launcher, cant dodge and explosion  ;D
This model is mostly based off sergeant black with a head swap with one of the heads from the judge and some modifications to the weapon and spare kit on the model.

The remaining models will form some of the NPCs for when I eventually get a campaign organised for my mates (or for when I get over to the UK next year).
First up is a yet to be named arbite character and his cyber mastiff.  Obviously based from the judge model with a weapon swap for lucretia's pistol and the spare head from the bounty hunter.  I changed the box to be a spare barrel from the baneblade kit to make it a bit different.  Campaign is going to be set on a semi arid world and he will be the senior law enforcement officer for an area of outlying settlements.

The last model is one of the opposites of the arbite being one of the gang eleaders for the various NPC gang factions.  This is Gerome the Rogue who will lead the highwaymen gang who specialise in armed hold ups of vehicles as well as muggings etc.  The rest of the gang will most likely be made up from models brought from the Russian manufacturer via ebay at a later date.  Anyway bounty hunters body, head and legs with sword, scabbard and arms from from von castellion.

None of the green stuffing on these models has been done yet but will get done hopefully early this weekend.

Anyway catch you all later.

Hello again all

First off several apologies, one for necro posting, 2 for double posting and 3 for taking so damn long to make an update to this WIP.  Work then Christmas got in the way.

Now on with the models.

Progress on Felix Draco's warband first.
Here is the as yet unnamed tau vet

Since this photo was taken has been primed. Intention is the character is a sniper who got stranded on a world that was occupied by the Tau and kept up a one woman fight.  The chainweapon will count as a normal chain sword but I modified it to look more like a unique weapon from her home world.  Need to get some green paint before there is much progress on this one.

Here is the aquamancer that is part of Felix's permanent retinue.

This is one of Steve Buddle's girls with jst a minor conversion to bringher into the 41st millenium as it is such a nice model in the first place. Since this photo was taken the painting has nearly been finished.

Next the Captain of Felix's ship.

The intention here is an older ex Naval Captain with years of service to the Emperor which has left him with some telling wounds ala Nelson.  Notible wounds are missing eye and left arm as well as the callipers to assist him in wlaking.  some minor greenstuff work required on the sleeve of the missing arm before painting.

Next up are a few random shoots of future NPCs or bad guys for any campaign I might eventually run.  My mates are keen to join in but havent made much progress towards it yet, plus am heading to the UK soonish so...

Daemonhost

Tech priest of more backwards world

Data runner (low end gang scum)

Random arbitor/inquisitorial henchmen (no role or warband yet thought up)

A few of these models just evolved when I was looking through the bits I had won on ebay a while ago.  I have also brought myself a daemon pince model to make a suitable end of campaign bad guy for players to fight, but I willnot start him till a few more of the other models have some notible progress on them.

Also there has been a bit of painting on a few of the models which isnt shown in these updates as I currently have no photos of them.  Intend to get those taken and upload in the near future.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again. It's always inspiring to see people coming up with fresh conversions from an increasingly stagnant selection of model parts. I particularly like the change you made to Gruss' pistol, that's a combination of parts I'm definitely going to borrow for my own nefarious purposes. I also like the Arbitrator you've done, that combination of bits alongside the shoulder pads work really well. I would suggest, perhaps shorten the barrel of the rifle? I've never really liked how that 'autogun' looked, and I think a lot of people here would agree. I have seen plenty of examples where the barrel has been shortened right down to the ridge connecting to the body of the gun, makes it feel more like a carbine.

I'm not so sold on the sniper lady, something doesn't seem right with her hands. I know she was supposed to be holding a shield, but the horizontal fist looks awkward. Try rotating it 90 degrees so it's more upright? It'd be in a more natural 'running' position, rather than a "I'll get you next time, Gadget!".
An Inquisitor walks into a bar - he rolls D100 to see if he hits it.

The models are nice, I like the axe made from the gun shield, it is original and looks good. I have one, more fluff-related question about the captain though, why doesn't he have bionics? That would make more sense in 40k than running about with only one arm, especially when the character is someone with resources. And where is the host's head from?

Thanks for the comments.

RobSkib, with gruss pistol I was intending to use it as a semi auto shot gun and with bionic arms the mech character will be strong enough to fire it one handed.  I will have a look at the auto gun and see about cutting it down, it is a nice suggestion.  I also see what you mean about the fist on the sniper, I guess I got lazy - saw to be applied at some point.

Dolnikan
With the captain, his back story is he got where he was by skill rather than birth so he was not able to afford bionics at the time he was injured and now refuses them out of stubbon pride, you dont need 2 arms to command a warship so.....  the hosts head is one of the new minotaur heads with the horns from a bestigor champion, ahh the fun of doing multiple fantasy armies so you have bits.

That automatic shotgun is inspired!  Good job.

With the Tau vet, why not spin the right hand through 90 degrees and have the strap from the rifle running through her grip?  I think that would add the effect of her holding on tightly as she sprints.

The one conversion I'm not so sold on is the data runner, and it's the fault of Von Castellan's skinny legs!  The torso simply looks too big.  I think it could be sorted with a belt covered in pouches and a couple of big pockets on the trousers.  That would add bulk without going as far as a total resculpt of the legs.

Ruaridh

Heroka Vendile

The techpriest axe and shotgun? Bang on. Great conversions. The naval captain a nice combo of parts too. The arbiter/henchman is a solid piece as well, though I'd agree with the chop the barrel down comments, also perhaps a pouch or three to define his beltline might be an idea.
It's all fun and games until someone shoots their own guy with a Graviton gun instead of the MASSIVE SPIDER.

Necris

My on crit is the scabbard on the captain, does it fit the sword?

This here is my very favourite gun...I call her rita.

Hello again all.

Once again I have managed to leave this so long before updating it has dropped off the front page even though there was additional progress before I had even posted last time (and irronically there is agian this time).

On with the show.

First up I have rotated the wrist of my Tau fighting guard vet and shortened the barrel of the autogun on the henchman (though he may get a promotion at some point)  No photos of the vet but here is the shortened gun barrel.

Next up we have the finished Squire (first model so far, including basing) .

Reasonably happy with how he turned out though depending weather might get added later.

Next up is the nearly finished arbitor/judge.  All that remains is the metallics, and the scroll on the right shoulder which I forgot.

Next up is the aquamancer.  I am very happy with how I managed to get the cloth to look on this one.  A little bitof metallics left as well as basin on this one.

And just to round out progress on Felix's warband here is where the elder fighting guard vet is at.

Now on with more NPCs or members of other future warbands.

First of them is the Techpriest who has had some additional work done and is now ready to be undercoated.

Next a mutant come gladiator, who's master has decided to provide protection to in the hope that it lasts slighty longer in the arena or out of it as required.

Made entirely from standard inquisitor parts as per most of my models (at this stage)

Now a random mutant with shotgun cause I had a model to use...

And lastly the start of the big bad guy for a potential future campaign, if I ever run one...

Plan is to try and get the look similar to the new Vampire Count Vargheists so that they can be lesser versions of a similar deaom species/type/breed and this is a larger version.

Yes there is a number of different models on the go at once and only one so far is finished.  I think that it was 19 or 20 on the go for inquisitor alone at this stage, excluding my starts at mounted characters and vehicles.

Oh and yes the scabbard is to small for the sword on the captain but oh well.

The models look very good. I really like the judge's coat, the colour fits it very well. The mutants look, well, mutated and I'm curious about how the big daemon will look.
