Lord Inquisitor Calleia, acting head of the Carthaxian Conclave

Afternoon,

With the Spring Conclave approaching, I decided I needed a model to represent Calleia, the acting head of the Carthaxian Conclave and the man who has called the High Conclave to decide on Lord Grolin's successor.  He was kind of based on the picture of Jaq Draco from the cover of The Inquisition War but isn't intended to be a direct copy.

Although armed with fine weaponry (as you'd expect for an Inquisitor Lord), his main strengths are going to be as a psyker and master politician.  He's going to be joined by my IG stormtrooper and Battle Sister for now, but depending how I feel about him after the Spring Conclave, I may add a savant and acolyte to his warband.

Looks good, although I'd attend to the top of his head using ProCreate - for whatever reason, it's somewhat flat and... well, seems slightly missing. There doesn't look like there's the room for the human brain up there.

It may just be the photo making it look odd, but that's what it looks like to me.

He's a fine piece of work.  Aging and dignified, yet dangerous.  Kudos on making the Thorian look so good (though I rather like the model to begin with, I won't pretend to be a huge detractor but he looks good).

Speaking of "fine weaponry," what is he armed with?  It looks to be a las pistol and a rather nice sword (force sword perhaps?).  Also, where is that head from?

In way of criticism I would say that (from this angle) the interface between torso and legs seems a little inorganic.  His legs seem to move straight downward with no bend and he appears to have no rear end.  That said, it appears scratch made and as such is infinitely better than I could do, but I feel as though you want harsh criticism since your modeling is on the high end of the conclave.

Looks good, can't wait to see more angles/him painted.

I suspect it is lack of camera angles which isn't doing the model justice. The gun he has his Van Yastobaals plasma pistol, but what is that on his base? More angles please!

I thought the same think about his head when I saw the bits on the Historex site, but when I actually got it in my hands I found it wasn't as bad as it first looks so just left it.  Still, I might have another look at it; I've just undercoated him and it's highlighted a few other small flaws that need to be fixed anyway.

His pistol, as Rob says, is Yastobaal's master crafted one - as for his sword, I did think of it being a force sword at first, but felt it might be more interesting if it was some sort of relic handed down through his cabal.  Not sure as to it's rules, but probably nothing too potent.  Other weapons include a couple of digital weapons on his left hand; and he might also get a Refractor field, plus he's got his psychic hood.  Overall a potent mix - but while he'll be a competant combatant, his mind will be his strongest weapon.

His base is similar to the sister & stormtrooper, with rubble and the like - the thing sticking up is an eagle head from some architecture pack.

Amazing stuff as ever.

I'd encourage leaving it at political prowess. Psykers are rare even within the inquisition, I don't like how any inquisitor without exceptional physical prowess is always made a psychic powerhouse. I think that he would be more intersting as a politically savy character who relies on others for psychic and martial support.

It's more that he's politically savvy because that's who the character is; and he's a psyker because that came out while building the model.  He ended up with the plasma pistol because I've always liked that piece and have been looking for a place to use it...

I'm a big fan of the model (and of the Jaq Draco artwork) so I'm keen to see this one painted!

That is marvellous. I like what you have done with the thorian model as a template. I have always thought the thorian inquisitor is one of the most distinctive models out there for inquisitor.

It's hard to explain why building the model led to him being a psyker - I just find that as I'm building a model I start to get a feeling for who the character will be; and for whatever reason Calleia felt like a telepath with a minor talent for telekinesis. I did wonder if he was going to end up more militant than I first thought when I added the plasma pistol, but apparently not...
