Nice work.  Where does he put the stubber when he's not using it?

R.

In a holster on his back hidden by the cape?

Pretty much this. I was going to suggest he had a holster on the small of his back - not hugely impractical, and it may be good to have a more concealed weapon at times (although obviosuly if he did so it probably wouldn't be loaded with the usual ammo).

To be honest your question sparked me myself to ask another question which is 'where does he store his sword when it isn't drawn?' He has no sheath anywhere on the model. However, by this point, with the added wires etc.. I don't really want to clutter the model any more (besides which, i added his laspistol holster on his sword side, so there's no room to model a sheath). However, at this point I decided to figure that in that pose he is probably in some sort of engagement, most probably with a daemon (why else would he have his gun with the special ammo drawn?), in which case he entered the conflict simply holding his sword, rather than having been engaged by surprise and having drawn.

At some point i think it isn't unreasonable to say 'it isnt unfeasable to imagine he has somewhere to put his sword' and just go for the beauty of the model rather than risking the aesthetic (as i was trying to use a minimalist aesthetic for this model, which will be clearer when you see my minimailistic colour scheme of white, silver and red - except skin and hair for contrast).

Anyway, finished pictures of both this and my Praetorian WIPs may now be a long time coming, as i'm back into term time and thus work demands are rising; so although I'll be present at the gathering in Nottingham, my general clave presence is going to diminish until i've finally got my exams out of the way.

That was my next question.

If I may make a suggestion...?

Why not get a drill and make a hole in his cape about the level of his shoulder blades?  You could then easily build the top of a scabbard emerging through the hole, thus settling the matter without having to disturb the flow of the rest of the model.

(Yes, I know shoulder-scabbards are an over-used trope and hugely impractical in real life, but it's better than no scabbard at all, IMO.)

That would also fit with the slightly tongue in cheek samurai nature of this model.

how about give him a servitor-familiar, who carries his stuff? Like a pageboy of European knights, but mechanical...

A Servitor horse, surely?
I had better point out, that some of the clubs I represent are of a military bent.

You know what you are?  A plywood shark!

I love that idea. I may steal it for some character at some point! Now that i'm nearing completion of the model, I don't think the back story feels right any more. He was never meant to be a 'proper' samurai (as i discussed at rather too much length before), but the feel of the model is more like Arthurian, or like a quite literal knight in shining armour - so i may well redesign the character's story and keep everything the same, but play down the samurai aspect of him, leaving the 'samurai' aspect of him as more subtle.

It being a friday i decided i would take an evening off working - i knew if i had a half painted model sitting on my shelf beside Zophar and co it would drive me crazy, so i gave in.

Anyway, enough with my babbling; on with the pictures! (a quick note: i pictured this model as soon as i finished it, so the shiny bits on the cape are just patches where the ink is wet).

Thanks for all the comments and advice - it's been really helpful.

Looking good, I enjoy the cabling and especially like the midsection, makes him look much more 40K.  Good detail with the scabbard popping out of the back, hadn't noticed that before.  The pistol on his right side is hanging kind of unnaturally (which I hadn't noticed before) but that depends on how much of a perfectionist you want to.  For the record I think the sword looks fine as is.

Can't wait to see him all finished up!

It's a new addition - I added it after PO suggested.

Now i've cracked the body of the painting, it's now an issue of tidying up etc... Which shouldn't be too bad time and difficulty wise.

Thanks for the comment.

EDIT - By the way, any suggestions for any details etc.. people think would enhance the model will be considered and appreciated; i love how great this place is for getting good advice.

If you have access to some Tau parts - the Fire Warrior backpack/power unit might look good hanging from his belt (or some similar small object)
