Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin goes 54mm

I've been assembling bits for a while to make up Inq54 warbands, but I've also been working on how to have some members that I have models for at both 28 and 54mm.

I've started assembling 54mm warband members and it looks like I will have two retinues.    One is being assembled to go with

Inquistrix Kyia Cardaiinn of the Ordo Xenos - a hunter with a religious bent.

Now that's her Inq28 version and I will be building a new version of her from the Daemonhuntress this time with a modified crossbow as I originally intended to give this version of her.

Past that I wanted a few models that existed in both scales so here will be her tracker.   Lots to do on the 54mm version, but the idea is there.

Then for the religious angle I've gone with a priest armed with an eviscerator - probably downgrade it, but may gave it an exterminator vent.

This is to be a crusader - though I do need to look at getting a shield for him.

That's to represent

One of the things I do want to look at is how to look at building for Inq54 a version of either

or

which I've modified to be carrying a large book with the names of kills for the Inquistrix.   Suggestions would be very welcome as I'd like one of her useless entourage with her.

Keravin

Few more shots of models for 54mm Cardaiinn's group.

Fairly standard Arbites conversion.  I am tempted though to set up a third group which would be an Inquisitor who was a judge and his arbites focused group.  Give me a chance to do a Verispex in 54mm.

Another one I thought I'd create in two scales.  Not sure I will say it's the same person though and indeed I could make this my Inquisitor judge.

More on the tracker as I start to build him properly.

And an idea of Cardaiinn's group at 54mm.   I do want to get her at least one banner bearer, though I'm envisaging this group to be a bit more stealthy than her in full hunt mode.   The Daemonhuntress is a stand in as that's the one my wife painted and I need to get my own to convert.    With that in mind does anyone have a spare bounty hunter rifle holstered that I might take off their hands?

Cortez

looking good so far. What do you plan to do with the Daemon Huntress?

Keravin

Turn her into a 54mm version of her 28mm version so gasmask, red armour, probably remove the shrine on the back.  Looking at giving her either a repeating crossbow or the bounty hunter rifle.  Probably keep the arms she has now as they work narratively and I like the notion she changes weapons given the hunter angle.

Keravin

I've picked up a tron action figure to use the body (and only the body) to make a Keeper of Names for 54mm.   Already started chopping it up, but the idea is that this gives me a frame to build on as well as a light up effect if I want to use it.    Going to take a lot of work to build it up and I suspect I need to do more excavation on the body to get the head into a spot I'm happy with.    Photos probably tomorrow.

Pulled together the second retinue which is built around a more radical Inquisitor.

I see the one on the right as a drill sergeant, whilst the one on the left is either a deathmasked individual ala PDH or a mutant/alien.

Rogue Trader working with the crew and with the Inquisitor probably conducting a few dodgy deals and using the Inquisitor to hide him.   Probably looking to change his arms as I'd quite like that sword on the Crusader for Cardaiin's lot.

Then the Inquisitor himself.  I like the damaged legs suggesting previous injuries, but the pose gives off a nice devil may care attitude.    His group is definitely not one that feels constrained by laws.

Pretty certain now that the Judge Inquisitor and his Arbites crew is happening with a Verispex to be built I think.

Keravin

Well I picked up a Tron toy to look at using as the basis for a model for Inquisitor.

Some unfortunate accident later and he's a lot shorter

Head removed and bits started to be added on.

Moved the head down to allow a hunched over look.   Various bits of bulk will be hidden under robes which will be being built up with green stuff.  The plastic shield around the head is there really just to give an idea of how the hood will fit so that the head wasn't looking odd.

Stuck to the base to start building up the model.   This is likely to take a while.  Edged out where the robes will be open to allow some of the underneath to be seen and also the glow effect :)   Then lots of books and purity seals to add.

I recognize the hulking heap of a Skaard Raze on the left here, but what is the gray figure in the middle?  It looks very cool and about the right size for =][=...I think I want one!
It may have all been a lie, but it keeps the masses quiet.

It's Captain-Deacon Zaitseva from Smart Max's Mauser Earth range. However, as far as size, it is a 1:35 figure, and thus only about 50mm tall.

I feel 1:35 scale can work as small, slight people at 54mm scale (seeing as people do vary), but not everyone agrees - she's too short for some people's tastes.

She is a Mauser Earth figure.   She's slightly small, but I think will work as a female character and has a good feel for this group.

Nice of you to post in here, Marco.  Could have answered the question, but it'd be nice to get some comments.

Keravin

First model modified to be able to start painting.

Strangely the arm that looks weird is the one the model comes with.   First attempt at an animal skull on his belt to emulate the ratskin model and I see this group as the one going a little more covert than the hunting party 28mm versions.

Probably going to end up basing in a similar style to the 28mm versions to further connect the two groups.  Looking at trying to get him and the preacher painted for December.

I'm afraid I'm not very helpful in the P&M section - I'm an average painter at best, and my modelling approach has more scratch-building than most people want to do*.

I can do the "Ooh, very nice model" or "I never would have thought of that combination" routine, but it always feels like it's wearing a bit thin.
I am interested, as I've seen players try to do 28mm versions of 54mm models before, but the inverse is a rarer thing to see - and a more impressive feat, in many ways, given the narrower 54mm range. I just don't do banter like that very well.

*However, if scratch-building advice isn't useless and you still need a shield for the crusader, my approach would probably be to use plastic plumbing pipe as the basis of the curved body (mostly because I can't think of a good part that's large enough - not having a great mental database of bitz). Pipe is a good resource for that kind of thing - especially if you don't have a heat gun for forming plasticard.

I'm impressed by the inventiveness of using a Tron toy torso as a robed body... nice one.

The rogue trader has a problem though that the Eisenhorn and Von Castellan models are very different builds... his torso looks a little inflated.
Questions are a burden to others, answers a burden to oneself.

Yeah I was thinking I will probably bulk out the legs when I come to do him properly.  Having no holsters etc on the legs definitely means they look slight at the moment.

Planning on priming the models that still need to be and then seeing if I can get them done for December.

Pictures of The Keeper of Names.  I'd struggled with what to put on the powered haft on the right, but the candles look 40kodd and also will work as a flamer.

And just to show the light up effect still works.

I've gone from a bit uncertain to quite impressed with the appropriateness of the bulk on that adept. I often think that sometimes we don't make the AdMech live up to their artwork enough.
It's all fun and games until someone shoots their own guy with a Graviton gun instead of the MASSIVE SPIDER.

Oh what have we here! Well I have to say that is some exalent work there Keravin, though sonsidering all the great work on the 28mm stuff I sould not be surprised that your 54mm works are just as great.

On a side not what gave you the idea for the adept guy? Useing the tron body as a bace was a cool idea btw.
