54mm Space Wolf

continuing the theme of "i'm too poor to do my own stuff" Adrian (who's been to a few conclaves) traded me some Rhinos for a 54mm marine, specifically asking for a Space Wolf from Ragnars' company armed with a chainsword and boltpistol!

here's a step-by-step as i've just finished him :)

i started by laying out a load of bits; helps get a miniature looking right if you know what you've got to work with

i knew i manted a dynamic pose but the OTT leaning forward really bugs me!
so a hacksaw came out and his left leg came apart; for upright marines i'd do the same to both legs

a pin went into the leg parts; this helps get the leg length right and also strengthens the joint

i bent the pin to get hte pose i liked and then greenstuffed into the gap; there's a great guide for banded armour on my site

i stuck the legs together and glued to a base; it's always good to start from the bottom as feet are important to posing a miniature

i space wolf'ed up the backpack a bit; as a commission i wanted a banner to make him imposing.
Thankfully had one of hte Chainweapon Packs' chainsword; i just had to remove his pistol fingers to help the grip look more natural!
I also filed out the control panel and resculpted it on the otherside so the marine can use his pip-boy!

i added the torso, cutting back some details to allow some wolf iconography; didn't wanna go too OTT as the current Space Wolves look a bit too chaotic!

more work; the fingers are sculpted and i started some work to the head; i wanted some flowing locks on there!

I ended up completley sculpting the pistol arm, the pistol is a cut down bolter and i did a one-off pad onto one of my blanks

here's the finished product; i went for a generic banner with some room to allow for freehand painting but on the whole i'm quite happy with the work; only took a week!

given some time i'd have liked an intricate banner but i don't know the background of this marine so Adrian can input his own character!
i make no apologies, i warned you my ability to roll ones was infectious...

Fantastic 'Tache and brilliant conversion... but no wolf tail?

Great stuff Gav.

Dammit, I was going to do a Wolf!! Very nice conversion Gav. Love the pose and all the little extra details like the Bolt Pistol conversion and the GS'd arm.

Impressed by how many Marines you actually own. I just picked up a Marine on Ebay for £8 so expect to see one from me sometime soon ;)

i think i'm at 8 built and the same again unassembled so a few shy of the 18 i need!
there's a few Space WOlves about; i plan on using the new Wolf dreadnought when i get around to mine!

Adlan; he's missing pelts of any description now you mention it!
but if you look at the classic 2nd ed Space Wolves they don't generally have alot of extra gubbins; i can't help but think you should use 1 current space wolf box per three normal boxes!

have to agree on the gaudy wolves, the new stuff might be ok for wolf guard but regular joes do not need ALL! the gubbinz
nice work on the wolf, interested to see it painted

Very cool wolf, the less over the top look suits it. Reminds me I need to get on with my marines.

Are you looking do copies of the wolf shoulder pad from this or create a different one?

Well you can do what you want, the technical branch are going to stay here and keep her afloat!! - Diesel CPO Otto Fricke, U505, Nov 10 1942 - On being ordered to abandon ship.

i'm thinking for First Founding of using Grimnars' comapny icon as any wolves away from the chapter would likely be dispatched from there, of course i've still gotta come up with some background!
